New York Yankees fans were, understandably, among the most impatient during the lockout.
They knew their team didn’t make any major moves before the halt of action, and were eager for free agency 2.0 to return so they could have a shot at some of the remaining players.
That, and the fact they missed watching the team play, were the main factors behind the fan base impatience.
Now, thankfully, the Yankees have a set date to start their 2022 season.
And it will be on April 7, against none other than the Boston Red Sox.
“No official word on the schedule, but the Red Sox series has been restored on the Yankees’ website as the opening day/weekend series. That rocks,” The Athletic’s Lindsey Adler tweeted.

The Rivalry Is Picking Up
The rivalry, arguably the fiercest in the whole league, has been picking up in the last couple of seasons.
In fact, the Red Sox knocked the Yankees out of last year’s postseason in the Wild Card Game, which became famous because of Gerrit Cole‘s complete inability to keep Boston’s hitters at bay.
Now, considering their track records and current status as team aces, Cole and left-hander Chris Sale are expected to be the Opening Day starters for New York and Boston, respectively.
The American League East division will be more competitive than ever in 2022.
The Tampa Bay Rays remain a powerhouse even if they aren’t going to have Tyler Glasnow on the mound all season, while the Toronto Blue Jays are gaining steam in the division: they are improved and they have time and money to make more moves.
The Baltimore Orioles are expected to finish last, but the Rays, Jays, Yankees, and Red Sox will be fighting all year to get wins.
