A peculiar situation is developing in New York.
Smoke from Canadian wildfires is blanketing the city, making it extremely hazardous for people to breathe and just be outside.
There is, unfortunately, a baseball game planned for Wednesday at just after 7 p.m. ET between the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox.
Baseball should be the last thing on everybody’s minds, and the likelihood of a cancellation grows and grows.
MLB insider Jon Morosi explained the situation via Twitter.
“UPDATE: @MLB officials are tracking environmental conditions in New York ahead of the Yankees-White Sox game. League officials are in communication with medical and weather experts. As of now, first pitch remains scheduled for just after 7 pm ET on @MLBNetwork,” he tweeted.

If there is any logic in the way MLB thinks and acts, there wouldn’t be a baseball game under these conditions.
They need to postpone it to another date because not only it is not healthy to breathe under the current scenario, but reaching the ballpark could also be problematic and dangerous.
There is no point in risking lives or long-term respiratory diseases: there shouldn’t be a baseball game played by professionals under the current circumstances.
The logical expectation would be that the MLB officials monitoring the environmental situation in New York reached that conclusion.
Money and business interests often trump logic, though, so we will believe it when we see it.
For now, first pitch is still scheduled for a little after 7 p.m. until there is an official announcement.
