The New York Yankees have been one of the most disappointing teams in MLB so far this season, even though their 17-15 record is actually not that bad.
The New York Mets have underachieved in the NL East, with a 16-16 record as of Friday afternoon.
That’s certainly not what fans had in mind for the New York teams before the start of the season.
“The Yankees are in last place. The Mets have lost 9 of 11. It’s been a disappointing start to the season for NY baseball,” SportsCenter tweeted.

The Yankees have suffered many injuries.
At the moment, they are without Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Carlos Rodon, Luis Severino, Frankie Montas, Scott Effross, Lou Trivino, Jonathan Loaisiga, Josh Donaldson, Oswald Peraza, and several others.
However, quality teams have the depth to cope with these cases.
The Yankees don’t, and the injury crisis exposed their depth problems.
The Mets lost Justin Verlander for the first month with a shoulder issue and Max Scherzer has struggled with performance (5.56 ERA) and a suspension.
They have also lost Edwin Diaz, Carlos Carrasco, Jose Quintana, and others to injury.
Both squads should be able to rebound at some point and make the playoffs.
Their status as true contenders will largely depend on what they do to improve their roster and depth over the next few weeks.
They will get healthier and better, but teams such as the Tampa Bay Rays, the Atlanta Braves, and the Los Angeles Dodgers are looking more solid and well constructed than both New York teams.
The season is long and it’s just starting, but if they don’t do anything to improve before the deadline, they risk their participation in the playoffs.
