Catcher Jose Trevino, who was acquired before the season in a trade with the Texas Rangers, will represent the Bronx Bombers in the voting process.
Each one of the 30 teams will have a representative as fans and members of the media will select the winner.
The Yankees couldn’t be more proud that Trevino will have a chance to compete for the award.
“Congratulations to our 2022 Roberto Clemente Award Nominee, @HipHipJose5! There is no one more deserving of this honor! Let’s recognize Jose for his tremendous work in the community by voting now at mlb.com/clemente21,” the Yankees official Twitter account wrote on Thursday afternoon.

Trevino Is Known For His On-The-Field Excellence, But His Off-The-Field Interests Involve The Community
The Roberto Clemente Award, according to the league’s official website, “is bestowed annually to the player who best represents the game of Baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.”
The award is named after Clemente, a Hall of Famer with notable community involvement during his whole life.
The ideal winner will be engaged in various community and philanthropic activities while being “focused on important issues ranging from awareness & fundraising to support those with cancer and other illnesses or special needs, education for young people, natural disaster relief, outreach to underserved children & communities in the United States and abroad, and more.”
Trevino has been quite the find for the Yankees on the field, but New York communities have also learned that he is a giving human being who wants the world around him to be better.
