Will The Packers Defense Be The Ultimate Downfall Of The Team In 2022?

The Green Bay Packers fans think they are sitting pretty heading into the 2022 NFL season.

However, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

A once great dynasty in Green Bay is slowly falling apart.

But don’t take my word for it, just look at the roster and everything happening with the team.

That is where you can find the meat of the problems with the Packers in 2022.

While most people focus on Rodgers and losing Davante Adams, there’s something else that should trouble Packers fans.

That trouble comes from their defense, who could be the downfall of the team in 2022.

The Case Against The Packers Defense

So Green Bay hasn’t been known as a team with a stellar defense.

However, they’ve always had stars on the front four and in the linebacker position.

Linebackers like Clay Matthews and Za’Darius Smith were a force on defense.

Over the last ten years, the Packers defense has only finished inside the top ten one time.

However, Packers fans continue to believe their defense is always a top ten defense.

Just upgraded and already top ten defense. These picks will make our defense better. And the packers have had some good luck drafting receivers in the 2nd round anyways.

Most of the time, the Packers defense is in the bottom half of the league, finishing in 17th place or below seven times over the last ten years.

While the Packers finished 13th overall last season, they ranked 26th in passing touchdowns allowed, tied with several other teams.

With no new standout additions in the secondary, they could do worse this season.

However, the biggest worry comes from the people up front.

With Smith gone in 2022, Kenny Clark is the only anchor for the front line of Green Bay.

But, in the Packers defense, they used their first-round picks this year to help their defensive front seven.

While the move helps them in the long run, it might not help this season.

Rodgers Can’t Win Even When He Has A Defense

In 2019, Rodgers started out the season against the Chicago Bears.

The game would be low scoring, and see the Packers win 10-3.

What Rodgers would proclaim after the game was how the team had a defense.

While holding the Bears offense to three points isn’t much to brag about, he was right about the defense.

That season the Packers defense finished ninth in defense, the best they’ve done since 2012.

However, Rodgers couldn’t seal the deal on the 2019 season, as the team lost to San Francisco 20-37.

That top-ten defense was destroyed by the 49ers’ offense.

So with the history of Rodgers in the playoffs, it’s been on the defense to bail him out.

When they fail, so does he.

Even at home in the snow, he failed when the defense held their ground.

During the playoffs last season, the Packers defense prevented the 49ers from scoring any touchdowns.

However, Rodgers could win at home with his defense only allowing two field goals.

A blocked punt would give the 49ers their only touchdown, and enough to help them win on a last-second field goal in the fourth quarter.

Without a defense in 2022, it will be the downfall of the Packers this year.
