White Sox Reporter Shares Positive Update On 2 Key Pitchers

The Chicago White Sox probably didn’t envision being in second place in mid-May.

But there they are, with a mediocre (for their standards) 17-17 record and three games behind the Minnesota Twins.

They have been bit by the injury bug, losing Eloy Jimenez, Lucas Giolito, Lance Lynn, Aaron Bummer, and other key players at some point in the season.

Giolito missed a few days after being place on the COVID-19 list.

He experienced some mild symptoms, but he appears to be ready to take the ball on Wednesday.

“Lucas Giolito flew in today and expects to pitch tomorrow. It will push everyone else—Velasquez, Keuchel, Kopech—back a day and leave Sunday to a choice between Cease and Cueto. Lance Lynn is scheduled to throw to hitters on Friday in New York,” The Athletic’s James Fegan tweeted.

Giolito Is Ready To Return; Lynn Should Be In A Couple Of Weeks

Giolito is feeling better, and his return is a significant boost for the White Sox’s rotation.

He is, after all, posting a strong 2.70 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP in 26.2 frames, with 37 strikeouts.

He is actually enjoying one of the finest seasons of his career, but it’s still very early.

On the other hand, Lynn is getting closer to returning.

Last year, Lynn was a legitimate Cy Young candidate, so getting back in top shape would be huge for the White Sox as they try to make up for some lost games.

Lynn is currently nursing a knee issue and is still projected to return in early June.

He is ready to face hitters, and from there, he will graduate to making minor league starts.

He should need two or three of them, though, but he is definitely edging closer.
