Zach Wilson is having a 2022 which he wishes he could forget.
One year removed from the New York Jets drafting him in the first round, he’s been put on the bench in favor of Mike White.
While he fell from starting quarterback to third-string quarterback, he’s making some improvements.
But what does his future look like in the NFL?
Wilson Needs Work If He Wants To Become A Starting QB Again
In Wilson’s last game as starting quarterback, he had a dismal 77 passing yards.
Zach Wilson in an entire game last week had 77 passing yards and 9 completions. Mike White through 1 quarter already has 7 completions, a passing TD and 75 passing yards. Jets defense can’t let him down against this Bears offense 😉

With horrible passing numbers, and little production in 2022, it’s clear he needs work.
The numbers are so bad with Wilson that White, a former third-string quarterback, became the starter.
But this doesn’t mean he can’t redeem himself.
However, the road to redemption will require him to work hard for the starting job.
His first order of business should be to improve his reads when under pressure.
With him going 16-for-60 while under pressure, and passing for 196 yards and five interceptions, he’s got a lot of work to do.
Jets QBs Under Pressure Stats per @PFF
Zach Wilson:
16/60 196 yards 1 TD 5 INTs 2 BTTs 11 TWPs 16 sacks 15 throw awaysJoe Flacco:
21/51 261 Yards 1 TD 0 INTs 2 BTTs 3 TWPs 9 sacks 7 throw awaysMike White:
7/13 161 Yards 1 TD 1 INTs 3 BTTs 0 TWP 2 sacks 1 throw aways— Will Parkinson (@Willpa11) December 8, 2022
Both White and Joe Flacco are doing much better under pressure, which also led to the benching of Wilson.
If Wilson can improve these numbers, he can reclaim his starting job with the Jets.
However, with him showing regression over the past year, it’s doubtful he accomplishes this feat.
With his steady regression, he won’t be a starter in the NFL, unless someone is injured.
This mean his career will see him as either a bust or a backup after 2022 concludes.
