The Washington Football Team easily has the most unique name in American professional sports.
It is simple, to the point, and has taken on its own fandom.
But the name was always a placeholder and the Football Team revealed when a new name will be announced.
The wait is almost over

February 2, 2022 is when Washington fans will know yet another new name for their favorite football team.
A hype video for a name change is unique, but at least they can try to build excitement for the fans.
Yet there is a wrinkle to the excitement the organization is trying to build.
That comes with a popular name that won’t be used.
Shooting Down A Top Choice
The Washington organization released their hype video and started branding the social media pages with references to the change.
But they also released a statement from team president Jason Wright.
It is titled: “Why Wolves won’t work (and a date to save).”
So amid all the excitement, Washington is telling fans that Wolves or RedWolves is not an option for a new name, even though they were among the top choices.
The problem, as explained by Wright, comes down to getting trademarks.

It is just a bit comical that the team eliminated a fan favorite choice at the same time they are trying to build excitement.
That may be done to get the outrage out of the way now, leaving February 2 as a day for good vibes only.
The Cleveland Indians switched to the Cleveland Guardians without any mention of choices being eliminated.
The Football Team may have seen the backlash and just decided to get out ahead of any disappointment for not going with Wolves or a variation of the name.
NFL fans can circle February 2 as a date to get on Twitter and see all the fallout from Washington’s new name.
If it is not Wolves or RedWolves, there should surely be some great reactions to whatever the team goes with.
