The Golden State Warriors are going to be spending some extra money soon.
And, no, it’s not because they are signing a free agent who is on the market but because their owner said something that ruffled a few feathers in the NBA.
ESPN Sources: The NBA has fined Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob $500,000 for his recent comments on the Point Forward Podcast discussing the league’s collective bargaining talks, which included Lacob describing the league’s luxury tax system as “very unfair.”

The NBA has fined Joe Lacob, owner of the Warriors, $500,000 for comments he made on the Point Forward Podcast discussing the league’s collective bargaining talks.
Lacob said that the NBA’s luxury tax system is “very unfair.”
That was enough to set off alarms inside the NBA and they sent down the fine.
NBA rules forbid owners and team officials from “unauthorized communications regarding collective bargaining.”
That’s a pretty vague rule but it was obviously enough to create the fine for Lacob.
An Expensive Opinion
There are many people who feel that the luxury tax situation inside the NBA really is unfair and causes too much financial damage to teams.
That may or may not be true but Lacob isn’t able to let his opinion about it be known.
This is just the way the NBA makes its rules and they have to be followed, regardless of how people feel about them.
It’s ironic that Lacob will be fined such a hefty sum after his team did so well in the last season.
It just goes to show that the NBA will crack down upon anyone associated with the league, no matter how successful they are or how good their teams are.
Lacob’s comments aren’t likely to encourage the league to change its rules about the luxury tax system.
These rules – including the rules about fines – are probably here to stay.
