Andre Iguodala of the Golden State Warriors has hung up his jersey and officially retired from the NBA after 19 years in the league.
He had an impact on several teams during his years in the NBA but his time with the Warriors rose above the rest.
To celebrate his career and legacy, the Warriors released a video showcasing Iguodala.
“Leader. Mentor. BALLER,” the caption above the video read, and the heartfelt interviews from players and peers proved that’s truly how the team views him.
Leader.
Mentor.
BALLER.@andre is truly one of one. pic.twitter.com/kVPeIgp9Gp— Golden State Warriors (@warriors) October 20, 2023
Iguodala was already an All-Star when he joined the Warriors in 2013.
He had spent his time with the Philadelphia 76ers and briefly with the Denver Nuggets too.
He secured an average of 15.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.8 assists at that point but the biggest chapter of his career was about to begin.
During his years with Golden State, Iguodala helped the team earn four championships and gained a Finals MVP trophy in 2015.
Even as he got older and wasn’t able to produce as much on the court, Iguodala was still a crucial part of the team’s DNA.
He switched his approach to the game and spent less time on the floor and more on the sidelines.
He was repeatedly spotted giving great advice and guidance to many other players with the Warriors.
Iguodala played fewer than 40 games during his last two seasons but he was still helping out the team so much that some people expected him to keep playing into 2023-24 and beyond.
He is just 39 years old and still has a true love of the game so no one would be surprised if Iguodala returns to the league in a coaching position in the future.
