Monday night was a special night.
Toronto Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. put on a show in the Home Run Derby, eliminating Mookie Betts, Julio Rodriguez, and Randy Arozarena to emerge victorious.
16 years ago, his father, Hall-of-Famer Vladimir Guerrero Sr., won the derby at Oracle Park in San Francisco.
Vlad Jr. was in attendance for that one.
But Guerrero’s victory ensured that he and Vlad Sr. became the first father-son duo to win the Home Run Derby.
On Twitter, Vlad Sr. commented on his son’s victory, praising him for his epic performance and letting him know how truly proud he was.
What a performance!
Proud of you son ♥️#HRDerby

Guerrero certainly put on a show on Monday night, and it was enough to catch his father’s attention.
Vlad Sr. then left a touching message on Twitter to let him know how proud he was.
And Guerrero certainly did make his father proud.
He and Vlad Sr. are the first father-son duo to have won the Home Run Derby.
In a sense, it was poetic justice.
Vlad Sr.’s victory over Albert Pujols in 2007 was certainly a special one, especially given that Vlad Jr. was around to see it and got to witness it live.
16 years later, the Blue Jays slugger got a chance to experience the victory himself as his All-Star and Blue Jays teammates swarmed him at the end when Arozarena was unable to match his total.
But Guerrero’s Hall-of-Fame father certainly didn’t want his son’s epic performance to go unnoticed, nor did he hesitate to tell him how proud he was of him.
