For almost a year, NBA scouts have raved about Victor Wembanyama and deemed him the consensus No. 1 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.
It wasn’t a matter of whether he was going to go first overall, but who was going to get the rights to get him with that No. 1 pick.
And now that we know that the San Antonio Spurs have won the NBA Draft lottery for the third time in franchise history, the French prospect couldn’t be more excited.

Wembanyama’s reaction to finding out his next destination was quite wholesome.
He was surrounded by his family, and it became evident that no one could hold back their emotions.
Notably, it’s hard to think of a better fit for Wembanyama’s skills other than San Antonio, all things considered.
They might not have the biggest market, but they still have one of the greatest basketball minds of all time in Gregg Popovich.
They also have Tim Duncan to come in and work closely with him to help him develop his defensive game, toughen up, and fulfill his true potential as one of the most unique big men to ever lace them up.
The Spurs have a long history of success with international players, and their system should make a smooth transition from FIBA basketball to the NBA.
And even though they’re still a couple of pieces away from contention, landing a potential generational talent has put them right back in the spotlight after five years of uncharacteristic struggles for such a winning organization.
