The San Francisco 49ers have a roster that is chock-full of impressive talent, but they will only go as far as their starting quarterback takes them.
It appears that starter will be Brock Purdy once he fully recovers from surgery on a torn UCL in his elbow, but until then, there may be an opportunity for Trey Lance to regain that role.
He has reportedly been working hard on his game, even training with two-time Super Bowl champ Patrick Mahomes, and a video of him during a team workout reveals his improved throwing form.

A year or two ago, critics said that Lance, the No. 3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, was a slow decision-maker and had flawed mechanics, but his release looks faster and the ball travels through the air tighter than it did previously.
He played in six games as a rookie and flashed his potential a few times, which was enough for head coach Kyle Shanahan to promote him to the starting spot just prior to last season.
After mixed results in Week 1, Lance suffered a severe ankle injury the following week that prematurely ended his season.
That injury, as well as one to veteran Jimmy Garoppolo, his replacement, opened up a window for Purdy, the last player chosen in the 2022 draft, to become the starter, and he did an impressive job in that role.
As long as the Niners get excellent play from the QB spot, they should have an excellent shot at winning their sixth Super Bowl this winter.
