The Los Angeles Clippers are heading into what could be considered a make-or-break season for the franchise, with the team needing to finally live up to expectations after years of disappointment due to injuries.
Ironically enough, this is the first year of the Kawhi Leonard and Paul George duo that no one expects the Clippers to do much of anything, as too many people have been burned by predictions of this team being great from start to finish.
One of the main reasons for all the hype surrounding the Clippers over the years has been the potential to be a dominant team defensively, with arguably two of the best two-way players in the game leading the way.
Unfortunately, Leonard and George haven’t been able to stay healthy consistently enough for this team to reach its potential, and head coach Tyronn Lue believes he knows what will get the job done.
Lue believes that the Clippers must be one of the best teams in the league on the defensive side of the ball to be successful, as he said on SiriusXM NBA Radio.
“We have to be a Top 5 defensive team this year…no excuses”.

Although Lue is not wrong, as the team’s key to success is on the defensive end of the basketball floor, it always comes down to staying healthy for this Clippers team.
This Los Angeles franchise can’t be successful as currently constructed if the team’s two best players are sitting on the sidelines during the NBA playoffs due to injuries.
If the Clippers can stay healthy and be dominant defensively, Los Angeles has a chance to be something special this season.
