Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers had a literally historic game on Tuesday night, guiding his team to a commanding 3-1 series lead over the New York Knicks and reminding the entire league how special he is.
Following the huge game, he spoke with ESPN about how he was trying to redeem himself after a disappointing Game 3.
“I was just trying to be aggressive,” Haliburton said. “Just trying to play my best. I felt like I let the team down in Game 3. I could have been so much better. I felt like I responded the right way today.”
Haliburton had a historic triple-double, posting 32 points, 15 assists, and 12 rebounds without a single turnover.
In his mind, this was redemption for how he played in Game 3.
During that game, Haliburton and his Pacers allowed a 20-point advantage to slip away, and he made it clear that that wasn’t going to happen again.
Instead, Haliburton had quite literally a flawless game, and now his team is just one win away from moving on to the NBA Finals.
It wasn’t just his points that helped; his assists were huge too.
According to ESPN, the Pacers earned 33 points from Haliburton’s well-timed passes.
In a number of ways, he was able to do it all for the team, and they couldn’t have found success without him.
Haliburton played sensational basketball on Tuesday night, and the Pacers are hoping he can keep it up in Game 5 and beyond.
If Indiana reaches the Finals, they will need him to continue performing like this.
And if he does, the team’s Western Conference foes will have a tough time fetching the Larry O’Brien trophy.
