Against all odds and despite the doubts and criticism, the Miami Dolphins have always stood by Tua Tagovailoa.
Outside of that brief moment when they almost tried to get Tom Brady, the Dolphins’ organization has always made it loud and clear that they fully trust Tagovailoa to lead them for years to come.
That’s why it’s kind of odd to see that they haven’t reached an agreement with him regarding a contract extension, considering he’s been eligible for one for months now.
The Dolphins could be waiting to see whether Tua will be healthy enough to stay on the field to get that extension, but that’s a dangerous game they could get involved in.
Tagovailoa recently spoke and said that Justin Herbert’s contract is good for the quarterback market.
Tua also claimed that he’s the kind of person who loves to prove himself and his worth, so he’s not too worried about whether he’ll get an extension as much as what he needs to do to silence the doubters once and for all (via Adam Beasley).

Justin Herbert, Jalen Hurts, and Lamar Jackson got massive extensions this offseason, and while Tua can’t sit at their table yet, he should get at least as much — if not more — than Daniel Jones got on his new deal.
But with Joe Burrow being next in line to get a massive payday and the QB market not going down any time soon, the Dolphins might have to pay a little more than they would want to lock up their quarterback for the future if he has a solid season in 2023.
