The jury is still out on whether Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will have a successful NFL career.
But he did look good in their season opener against the New England Patriots.
The former Alabama standout completed 23 passes for 270 yards and a touchdown.
More importantly, the Dolphins won over the Patriots, 20-7.
That win kept Tagovailoa’s unblemished record versus New England.

NFL Research tweeted, “Tua Tagovailoa is now 4-0 against the #Patriots in his career. He is the only QB to remain undefeated in at least 4 starts against New England in the Bill Belichick Era. @MiamiDolphins #Dolphins #FinsUp.”
His first win over New England came on December 20, 2020, wherein he finished with 20 completions for 145 yards.
Win number two happened on September 12, 2021, and he had 202 yards and a touchdown.
Tagovailoa’s third win against the Patriots occurred on January 9, 2022, wherein he made 15 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown.
Therefore, his recent victory over New England is his best performance out of the four games.
But the improvement of the roster might have helped him perform better.
Having Tyreek Hill is a nice luxury to have, and it showed with the All-Pro wideout finishing with eight receptions for 98 yards.
Jaylen Waddle also added 69 yards and a touchdown catch.
Mike McDaniel Gives Tagovailoa Confidence
Tagovailoa’s previous head coach, Brian Flores, is a defensive-minded mentor.
Now, he has Mike McDaniel, who was previously the San Francisco 49ers’ offensive coordinator and run-game wizard.
Against New England, the zone-run scheme was in full effect, enabling their receivers to break free.
Likewise, Tagovailoa became a pocket passer in their season opener, finishing with zero rushing yards.
The Dolphins will try to replicate their success when they face the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2.
