This is the dawn of a new era for the Jacksonville Jaguars – again.
They brought in James Gladstone and Liam Coen to instill some much-needed young blood and a different approach to an organization that has looked lost for years.
Still, most of their success – or lack thereof – will hinge on whether they can finally bring the best out of their quarterback.
If you were to ask Trevor Lawrence, the best is yet to come for him.
In a recent interview, the former No. 1 pick claimed that he’s ready to be the best version of himself this season:
“I feel like this is like getting into my prime,” Lawrence told the Pardon My Take podcast. “I got a lot of good years left ahead of me, and I need to really turn it on. And I think what we’ve built around me and what they’ve done this offseason has been a great start.”
Lawrence has shown flashes of outstanding play.
He looked like a star in the making in the first year under Doug Pederson’s tutelage.
Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case for most of his career.
Of course, he’s still young, but now that he’s entering his fifth season in the NFL, this might be his last chance to prove that he can live up to the expectations and the big-money deal he signed with the Jaguars.
Lawrence drew comparisons to Peyton Manning when he was at Clemson, and he was one of the most anticipated quarterbacks to enter the league in years.
He’s by no means JaMarcus Russell, but he’s not a Peyton Manning type of No. 1 pick, either.
The Jaguars gave him another prime weapon in Travis Hunter, and he showed a promising chemistry with Brian Thomas Jr. last season.
Now, he has to put his money where his mouth is.
