The Cleveland Cavaliers made a huge move last offseason by acquiring Donovan Mitchell.
It clearly didn’t take a toll on Darius Garland’s numbers or development, and they had one of the most explosive and entertaining backcourts in the league in the 2022-23 season.
However, their lack of depth and experience was a huge issue in their first-round loss to the New York Knicks, and J.B. Bickerstaff’s rotations were exposed more often than not.
Even so, diehard Cavs fan and Kansas City Chiefs superstar Travis Kelce doesn’t seem to be worried about his team’s future.
“They need to keep growing – I’m happy with what the Cavs got going right now… I know my guy Donovan Mitchell and the gang has got everything covered” 🤝@tkelce on what the #Cavs need to do moving forward@spidadmitchell | #LetEmKnow | #RunItBack pic.twitter.com/W4L9mW6yVM

In a recent chat with FanDuel’s Shams Charania, Kelce said that all the Cavs need to do to get over the hump is just keep growing, maturing, and developing their young players.
He believes their ability to close out and thrive in those big games will come over time, adding that he thinks that Mitchell will take care of business in The Land.
The Cavs have one of the most promising and prominent young cores in the league.
Evan Mobley has the potential to be a perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate and Jarrett Allen is also a dominant rebounder and rim protector.
Their backcourt has the potential to go off for 60+ points on any given night, and Isaac Okoro could still turn out to be the lockdown defender they hoped he’d be.
But all teams need veteran players and depth, and that should be the point of emphasis for them entering this key offseason.
