Since making an Eastern Conference Finals appearance, the Atlanta Hawks have been searching for ways to get over the hump.
The Hawks traded for Dejounte Murray last summer in order to pair him with Trae Young, but the All-Star backcourt fell well short of expectations as the Hawks lost in six games to the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs.
Entering the 2023-24 season, there is a lot of pressure for Atlanta to win games and their fortunes hinge on Young and Murray being able to co-exist on the floor.
Often times, the two guards took turns taking control of the offense but that caps the ceiling of the team.
Head coach Quin Snyder will likely be more intent on installing his system after a full offseason with the roster, so Young and Murray should find themselves synergizing more.
Ahead of the upcoming season, Young and Murray got some reps in during an open run via Young’s Twitter account.

In the short clip, Murray throws a pass ahead to Young who then gives it back to Murray for a dunk.
It’s a small glimpse into what the two can do on the floor together, and Hawks fans are surely hoping to see more of it this year.
In the modern NBA, it’s hard to win when the two best players on the team are guards but Atlanta is betting on the talent of the two All-Stars.
Unfortunately, the Eastern Conference looks deeper and better this time around so the Hawks have their work cut out for them.
