The New York Yankees are not only enjoying success on the major league team, but also, their top prospects are thriving, too.
The best of them all, shortstop Anthony Volpe, overcame a brutal start, made adjustments, and is now one of the best hitters in Double-A.
As a result of his efforts, he recently received a well-deserved honor.
“Yankees top prospect Anthony Volpe has been named to the 2022 MLB All-Star Futures Game!,” the Somerset Patriots, his Double-A team, tweeted.

Volpe was recently named as the eighth-best prospect in baseball by MLB in its latest July update, so his success is very much validated by his amazing tools and 2021 (and 2022) stats.
He broke out last year with 27 home runs and 33 stolen bases between Low and High-A with the Yankees.
Assigned to Somerset to start 2022, he struggled right out of the gate, probably having issues handling the high-minors velocity and better stuff and command.
Making Adjustments
But adjust he did: now, he is once again a comfortably above-average hitter at 21 years old, much younger than the average Double-A player.
In 70 games and 316 plate appearances, Volpe has 11 home runs, 48 runs, 41 RBI, and a whopping 33 stolen bases.
His slash line is .244/.342/.444 with a .786 OPS.
Those numbers are very, very good.
However, since May 15, he is slashing .291/.376/.515 with a .891 OPS, 16 doubles, seven home runs, 28 runs, 25 RBI, and 20 stolen bases.
Since that day, he has been the Volpe we knew from last year, when he toyed with minor league pitching.
For the Yanks, the future is extremely exciting, as fellow shortstop prospect Oswald Peraza is also starting to break out in Triple-A Scranton.
The position appears to be well-covered for the next decade if they can translate their minor league success to the bigs sometime within the next season or two.
