On Wednesday, Miami Marlins star prospect Eury Perez had one of the toughest assignments of his life.
He was tasked with facing Seattle Mariners ace Luis Castillo at T-Mobile Park, in Seattle.
As good as Castillo is, he was no match for young Perez, at least for one night.
MLB Pipeline brings us Perez’s stat line for the game:

The rookie casually tossed six scoreless innings with just two hits and a walk.
He struck out six hitters.
Perez had fun with the Mariners’ offense and only allowed three baserunners in his six frames.
Castillo conceded a couple of runs and struggled with control, with six walks to his name.
Perez’s efforts were almost spoiled in the ninth inning, but a leaping catch by Jesus Sanchez robbed the Mariners of a grand slam and resulted only in a sac fly.
Perez has been incredible since getting the call from the Marlins’ minor league system.
He has a 1.80 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP in seven starts and 35 innings.
The Marlins will likely bring him along slowly because his arm is one of the most prized assets in baseball and the team probably doesn’t want to have him throw too many innings and not be available in a hypothetical postseason series.
He is destined for big things, though, and it’s hard to think about a pitcher with a better combination of stuff, height, command, and poise.
In case you don’t remember, Perez is just 20 years old and is already pitching like an ace in MLB.
Hopefully he can avoid serious injury and complete a long, fruitful career.
