The Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ future is murky after Tom Brady decided to announce he was retiring for good this past offseason.
The Buccaneers were in win-now mode during Brady’s tenure with the franchise, but with him now gone the organization is left to figure out how to best move forward.
Although the NFC South appears open on paper, it’s hard to discern how much Tampa Bay can actually compete with such a huge question mark at the quarterback position.
Throughout training camp, Todd Bowles has had Kyle Trask and Baker Mayfield split the starting signal caller reps though neither one has truly set themselves apart.
In fact, Bowles has yet to commit to either as the starting quarterback for Week 1 and has no timetable to do so via Scott Smith of the Buccaneers.

That’s a concerning update from the Buccaneers head coach as the other 31 teams in the league have a much better idea of who will be starting for them when the new season kicks off in a few weeks.
Tampa Bay still has a solid receiving room led by Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, but who will be throwing them the football remains a mystery.
Mayfield is the more experienced option after splitting time last year with the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams, though Trask represents potentially more upside.
Bowles is in an unenviable position because neither player seems like a true starter, but this is the card that he and the team were dealt and they will just have to try and make the most of it.
