The Detroit Tigers opened up the second half of the 2023 season on a positive note, defeating the Seattle Mariners by a final score of 5-4 and improving their record to 40-50 on the season.
They are now just five games back of first place in the weak AL Central.
But one of the key moments in the game came in the bottom of the first inning.
Julio Rodriguez hit a long fly ball out to center field that looked to be headed out of T-Mobile Park.
However, Matt Vierling leapt into the air and pulled it down, robbing Rodriguez of a homer.
On Twitter, the Tigers posted a photo of Vierling making the catch and had a clever pun in the caption.

The caption read “Think that’s a homer? Hold my Vier.”
This is of course a play on words for the common phrase, “Hold my beer.”
The important thing however is that Vierling made a truly unbelievable catch to rob Rodriguez of a home run.
The young outfielder knew he had a chance to make a play, despite the fact that the ball appeared to be headed over the center field wall.
Vierling took a chance and brought it back down to keep the Mariners off the board for the time being.
Eduardo Rodriguez, who was pitching for the Tigers, certainly appreciated Vierling’s effort to bring the ball down and keep Seattle off the board.
And the play proved to be a key moment in the game as the Tigers went on to win their second-half opener at T-Mobile Park.
