Detroit Tigers slugger and future Hall of Famer Miguel Cabrera knows baseball like few other players.
He has played the game since he was a little kid in Maracay, Venezuela.
He knows what is like to be a prospect and burst into the majors at a young age.
The veteran knows what it’s like to struggle, to lose, and to get hurt.
He is also familiar with getting traded, carrying a team, and being a declining star.
In other words, if there has been any situation a major leaguer has been in, Cabrera has probably lived it.
That knowledge, plus the myriad of things he knows about the science of hitting a baseball, give him a nice foundation to be an executive one day.
The Tigers will be giving Cabrera a chance to have a role in the organization at the front office level.
“Once a Tiger, always a Tiger. Following Sunday’s game, Miguel Cabrera’s next chapter will be in Detroit as a Special Assistant to the President of Baseball Operations,” the Tigers announced.

The Tigers will start their last series of the season against the Cleveland Guardians on Friday.
After that, Cabrera’s career as an active player will come to an end.
What a wonderful career it has been: he has surpassed 600 doubles, 500 home runs, 3,000 hits, a .300 batting average, and a .900 OPS.
He won two MVP awards, a Triple Crown, and carried the Tigers to a World Series appearance in 2012.
After the World Series ends, he will start a new chapter of his life as a special assistant to the president of baseball operations.
If he thrives in the role, perhaps he can have a future as the person making baseball decisions for a team.
