It’s been nearly 20 years since the Seattle SuperSonics existed but most NBA fans agree that they could be coming back soon.
The league is reportedly considering expansion teams in the next few years and people feel that Seattle will be receiving a squad again.
If that happens, they will receive their team history, which the Oklahoma City Thunder currently holds.
According to ESPN, per NBACentral, the Thunder will give up the history of the team if and when the Sonics return.
ESPN reported:
“Sources said if a team was to return to Seattle, the Thunder would cede the Seattle history back to the SuperSonics — just as the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets reclaimed the Charlotte-era history of the New Orleans Pelicans when Charlotte switched from being the Bobcats to the Hornets in 2014.”

It seems like it’s just a matter of time before the Sonics are back in Seattle.
Fans of the team are still disgruntled that they lost them after the 2007-08 season when the SuperSonics transformed into the Thunder and moved states away to Oklahoma.
Since then, they have been hoping for the day that they’d get a franchise back in their city.
All signs point to Seattle, and possibly Las Vegas, getting teams within the next few years.
But since the Sonics became the Thunder, their franchise history carried over to Oklahoma City.
Thankfully, the Thunder are willing to give that all up.
That means all of the team’s past, including when they won the Finals in 1979, will return to Seattle with the team.
This is a kind move that will make fans in Seattle very happy.
They would be getting their team back but, more importantly, they’d be getting their history back too.
