Throughout his coaching career in the NBA, Gregg Popovich has become an icon as the leader on the sideline for the San Antonio Spurs, coaching legends like David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili while leading the franchise to five titles.
Even though Popovich once vowed to walk away from his post as Spurs head coach when Duncan retired, the Hall of Famer chose to pivot and embrace the rebuilding process in the post-Duncan era.
Although the last few years have been rough for the Spurs as they’ve struggled to get back on track as a heavyweight in the Western Conference, Popovich has endured and seemed to have no intention of calling it a career, especially with the team bringing in superstar rookie Victor Wembanyama last year.
Unfortunately for Popovich, a health issue has resulted in him having to be out indefinitely, which surprised everyone around the league, and now the situation could be worse than first thought.
According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the concern level over Popovich’s health scare is high via NBA on ESPN.
“There is a great level of concern around the situation for the Spurs and Gregg Popovich,” Charania said.

As one of the greatest NBA head coaches of all time, this is a situation that all basketball fans will be monitoring, as Popovich is an NBA royalty and highly respected for what he’s been able to accomplish on the professional level.
As for the Spurs, Wembanyama and company will have to press on with heavy hearts, with the team starting the season with a 3-4 record after the first seven games.
