The strength of the New York Yankees‘ farm system relies on their position players.
With Anthony Volpe, Oswald Peraza, and Oswaldo Cabrera all in the major leagues and officially graduated, who fills the void as the organization’s best prospect?
There are plenty of candidates, but “The Martian” Jasson Dominguez is by far the best one.
Per Yankees analyst Joe Randazzo, who cited a report by MLB Pipeline, Dominguez and catcher Austin Wells are now one and two in the organizational rankings.
“Jasson Dominguez & Austin Wells with BACK to BACK jacks! Both sluggers are the new one and two prospects in the Yankees org according to MLB Pipeline. They replaced Anthony Volpe and Oswald Peraza,” Randazzo tweeted.

Dominguez got off to a slow start just like last year, but has been stellar for weeks and is now hitting .200 but with a phenomenal .393 OBP, a .413 SLG, and a 130 wRC+.
That last stat means that he has performed 30 percent better than the league-average hitter, which is very good.
Wells is at .259/.333/.778 with four home runs in just seven Double-A games.
The sample size is even smaller than that of Dominguez, but Wells has an otherworldly 193 wRC+.
Both guys are more 2024 plays, but if they keep dominating and are promoted to Triple-A this year, anything can happen.
The Yankees are not the best offensive team out there and may need contributions from their top two prospects later in the year.
As of now, they are not ready for the majors, but both have taken their game to another level in 2023 and have a big year ahead of them.
