The New York Yankees are always expected to win.
Their fan base is probably the most demanding in all American professional sports: they expect the team to compete for the World Series title year after year.
Long rebuilding periods are not well-received by fans, and this has been the case for the last three decades.
With a win today, the Bombers can clinch a 30th consecutive winning season, which is pretty amazing.
“The #Yankees can clinch a 30th consecutive winning season with a victory today. Most Consec. The last time the Yankees had a losing season was in 1992, when they went 76-86.
By 1993, the foundation of the late-1990s dynasty was starting to appear.
An Impressive Streak Of Winning Seasons
They made the postseason every year from 1995 to 2007.
After missing the postseason in 2008, they won the World Series in 2009 and advanced to the playoffs every season except for 2013, 2014, and 2016.
Even in those 2008, 2013, 2014 and 2016 campaigns, the Yankees’ record was above .500.
Even when they embarked on a short “retooling” process in 2016, when they traded top relievers Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman, they had more wins than losses.
Some fans are already ruling out the Yankees, seeing how they have been a mediocre team after the All-Star break.
Their flawless first half, however, should be a reminder of what this team can do with health.
Yes, they are no longer favorites in the American League, let alone MLB, but they can still win a playoff series.
Their next win will secure a 30th straight winning season.
It’s actually quite impressive.
