The 2022 Chicago White Sox have been, without a doubt, the most disappointing team in the league if we consider preseason expectations in the analysis.
This team was supposed to run away with the AL Central division, like it happened in 2021.
Instead, they aren’t even playing .500 ball, with a 63-65 record.
They have several problems, probably starting with a manager in Tony La Russa that doesn’t seem to adapt to today’s game and rules.
Going deeper, their roster is full of disappointing players and performers.
It’s highly problematic and inconvenient that most of the White Sox’s stars are overpaid and over 30.
“2023 guaranteed #WhiteSox salaries: Yasmani Grandal $18.5M; Lance Lynn $18.5M; Yoan Moncada $17.8M; AJ Pollock $10M; Joe Kelly $9M; Kendall Graveman $8M; Leury Garcia $5.5M. All had horrendous 2022 seasons and Sox are COOKED if these guys don’t get better,” sports fan Jim Scheffres tweeted.

* Player option

Pollock, Scheffres clarifies, has a player option for next season.
To be fair and accurate, Graveman hasn’t had a bad season, with a 2.70 ERA (3.69 Fielding Independent Pitching) in 53.1 frames; but each and every one of the names he mentioned have been lousy, to put it lightly.
Moncada is supposed to be a franchise cornerstone, yet he has a 66 wRC+ (league average is 100!) and has been worth just 0.3 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) in 324 trips to the plate.
Lynn has been injured, and when he has taken the mound, has been mediocre.
Grandal was magnificent last year, but has been worse than replacement level in 2022 (-0.5 WAR).
The White Sox’s player development staff and coaching needs to do a better job, too.
The organization seems to be in a really bad place right now, with a lot of question marks all around the diamond.
