The Houston Texans have made it more than clear that they want to compete, and they want to compete now.
Moreover, they’ll emphasize the defensive side of the ball, which shouldn’t come as much as a surprise with DeMeco Ryans now calling the shots.
That’s why they decided to bring veteran linebacker Neville Hewitt back.
Texans are re-signing free-agent linebacker Neville Hewitt to a one-year deal, per source.

According to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Hewitt will re-sign with the Texans, inking a one-year contract.
The sum of the contract or the incentives, if any, have not been disclosed as of yet.
Hewitt originally signed with the Texans in 2021, and they managed to keep him for another season with a one-year deal last offseason.
While he wasn’t a perennial starter, he did earn a spot in Lovie Smith’s rotation with his toughness, leadership, and not trying to do too much.
In 2021, he started five out of 17 games, but he was only used as a reserve in his second season with the organization.
Throughout 31 games, the veteran LB has recorded 74 tackles and a forced fumble.
He came with some pedigree from his days with the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins, logging 354 tackles, 7.5 sacks, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble in his first six campaigns in the league.
Hewitt may not be the most impactful player on the field, but all young teams need hard-nosed veterans that can teach their young guys the ropes of the game, so props to Ryans and the Texans organization for keeping one of their old-school guys around.
