With the bright stars of the NFC West getting new contract deals, one star has yet to reach a deal with his team.
That player is DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks.
Both he and the team have yet to settle on a deal to keep the young receiver in Seattle.
However, the reason no deal has been reached might be because Metcalf wants out of Seattle.
But if that’s the case, why stay in contract talks with Seattle?
The reason could be that Seattle might give Metcalf a reason to stay with them.
So what is it that Seattle can offer to keep their talented receiver with the team?
Seattle Needs To Open The Checkbook For Metcalf
2022 is the year of huge contracts.
Out of the list of the 100 highest-paid athletes in the world in 2022, there were 41 newcomers and nearly half were from the NFL, as huge signing bonuses drive football contracts. pic.twitter.com/yveLGfHocI

Receivers like Davante Adams, Hunter Renfrow, Cooper Kupp, Tyreek Hill, and A.J. Brown all got big contracts.
With those players getting new contracts worth big money, the Seahawks need to follow suit to keep their receiver.
He now knows what he’s worth based on what other receivers got based on their abilities.
While he might not be worth the contracts that Hill and Kupp got, he could get a deal better than his current contract had for him.
This should at least prepare Seattle for what their receiver is expecting to see with a new contract.
However, they might need something else to give him a reason to stay besides money.
Metcalf Might Want A Talented Quarterback To Work With
Having Russell Wilson as his quarterback since Seattle took him in the NFL Draft has spoiled the receiver.
Wilson is one of the best quarterbacks in the league, and Metcalf saw a benefit to having an elite quarterback passing him the ball.
With the departure of Wilson, Metcalf might believe his numbers will suffer without a top-tier QB on the team.
So Seattle might need to promise him they will sign a quarterback in 2023 to replace their former Super Bowl champion QB.
How they get that next elite quarterback in 2023 is up for debate.
They have draft capital to draft a quarterback next season.
Or they could use that draft capital to trade for a quarterback that might want a new team.
However, with 2023 being far down the road, everyone is looking at the present time with Metcalf.
Pete Carroll Confident His Star Returns To Seahawks With New Deal
Seattle’s head coach doesn’t seem to have any doubts that a deal can get done between their receiver and the Seahawks.
Here was Pete Carroll on DK Metcalf’s unexcused absence from minicamp and the latest on Chris Carson’s attempt to return from neck surgery. Carroll later said he’s no less optimistic than before minicamp about getting a deal done with Metcalf. Declined to say if he’ll be fined. pic.twitter.com/aoR7tIAeuU

With him having confidence of a return of their young receiver, that might mean he knows something the public doesn’t know.
However, things can change fast in the NFL, as we have seen in the sudden trades of star players.
Players like Davante Adams and Hollywood Brown being sent to new teams sent shockwaves in the NFL.
It could be the same situation here in Seattle with their receiver.
So while Carroll has confidence in the return of his player, Seattle could send shockwaves through the NFL yet again.
