The Kansas City Royals headed north for their series against the Toronto Blue Jays a little bit shorthanded.
Due to Canada’s vaccine mandate, there were several players on the Royals regular roster, 10 to be exact, who could not play as they remained unvaccinated against COVID-19.
As such, the Royals came into last night’s game against the Jays with +310 odds to win, according to BetMGM on Twitter.
But at the end of the day, those odds meant nothing.
The Royals put together tough at-bats on Blue Jays ace Kevin Gausman and without players such as Whit Merrifield and Andrew Benintendi, among others, Kansas City pulled off the miracle and won 3-1.
The Blue Jays were the biggest money line favorites this MLB season at -400…
The Royals (+310) just won the game 🤷

Against All Odds
Baseball is a crazy game sometimes.
You didn’t need to look at the odds to know that the Royals were at a severe disadvantage.
With their two best hitters out of the lineup and the team already well below .500 and far out of the postseason chase, it was easy to tell why the Royals were not favored to win the game.
Even had all of their unvaccinated players been available, they would have likely not been favored to win the game.
But we all know how crazy baseball can be and how sometimes, even the worst teams can come out and beat the best when they’re at a disadvantage the way the Royals were.
That’s a lot of players missing due to their vaccination status, yet the Royals went into a hostile environment at Rogers Centre and overcame all odds to win the series opener in Toronto.
That shows a ton of determination on the Royals’ part.
Yes, they likely won’t make the postseason, but with nothing left to lose essentially, they came into Toronto and pulled off an upset of sorts.
