The Carolina Panthers have seen enough futility from Matt Rhule.
Initially, the franchise hoped that he could replicate his success story with the Baylor Bears to the Panthers.
Sadly, it did not go as planned, as Rhule compiled an 11-27 record over three seasons.
Their 37-15 loss to the San Francisco 49ers dropped them to 1-4, and the Panthers have one of the worst offenses this season.
While Rhule is regarded as an offensive genius, the Panthers are dead last in total yards per game through Week 5 with 271.4.
They are also 28th in passing yards (181.6) and 27th in rushing yards (89.8) per game.
The Panthers are also tied for seventh-worst in points per game with 18.6.
But while Steve Wilks has taken over as interim head coach, the team’s business with Rhule is not yet over because of the remaining years in his seven-year, $62 million contract.
The deal is fully guaranteed, and it keeps Rhule under Carolina’s payroll until 2026.
However, Spotrac revealed a way for the Panthers to reduce the amount owed to Rhule.
It should be noted here that Matt Rhule's contract contains offset language. If (when) he finds a new (college) gig, his salary there will deduct from the $40M owed by Carolina. https://t.co/DJOGhZrmHc

Spotrac tweeted, “It should be noted here that Matt Rhule’s contract contains offset language. If (when) he finds a new (college) gig, his salary there will deduct from the $40M owed by Carolina.”
He posted this in response to Front Office Sports which said, “Matt Rhule coached 38 games for the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers still owe him over $40 million. Rhule will make $834,000 per month for the next 48 months after being fired today, per @AllanBell247.”
Rhule Is A Hot Commodity In College
He will be highly sought after in college football thanks to the success he had with the Bears.
Therefore, it may not take long before he finds a job again.
Despite the unfortunate turn of events for the Panthers, they hope that Rhule will find another role soon to reduce the money owed to him.
