The Oakland Athletics have been a team that no one has talked about this season.
But that is for good reason.
The A’s are not only the worst team in baseball but they have been one of the worst teams in some time.
Oakland was on pace to put themselves in contention for the worst record in MLB history.
But that was before their recent hot streak.
Do not get it twisted, the A’s are still bad.
Yet they are playing like one of the best teams in baseball of late.
The A’s have ripped off six straight wins, including a sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers and a win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Even with this winning streak the A’s are still 18-50 on the year.
Now the A’s have caught up with the Kansas City Royals and both teams are jostling for worst in the league.
The Royals are 18-48 and have played every bit as bad as the A’s.
Still, it appears as if these two teams have a chance to be the worst team of all time.
According to Bob Nightengale, the worst record in the modern era belongs to the 1962 Mets, who went 40-120-1.
The A’s and Royals are on pace for 43 and 44 wins, respectively.
The Oakland #A’s, after 6 consecutive victories, are 18-50 and on a 43-119 pace.
The Kansas City #Royals, after 7 consecutive losses, are 18-48 and on a 44–118 pace.
The worst record in the modern era belongs to the ‘62 #Mets at 40-120-1.
The race is on.

Comparing the two rosters it seems like the A’s are destined to be the worst in the league.
But the Royals continue to underperform despite having some good players on their roster.
While not many fans pay attention to the teams at the bottom of the standings, chasing history could be a reason to do so.
