The league isn’t showing any signs of slowing its outreach beyond American borders.
In fact, the NBA just announced a game between the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat that will be held in Mexico City on Saturday, December 17.
This will be a regular season game, meaning that it’ll hold significant importance for the record of both teams.
This will be the first NBA Mexico City game since 2019 and the league’s 31st game in Mexico.
The NBA really is becoming an international force.
Basketball Without Borders
You can tell that the NBA is a truly global phenomenon and not just because of the number of fans from all over.
Take a look at the last four NBA MVPs and you’ll see they are all foreign-born players.
Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks won two trophies and then Nikola Jokic of the Denver won back-to-back MVPs too.
There are actually many international players who are populating the league currently, more than ever before.
Some of the biggest names in the game hail from other parts of the world, showing just how big basketball is all over.
This game in Mexico City is a great way to raise awareness for more people, create new fans, and possibly a few future superstars too.
