The New York Mets added some really good prospects at the 2023 trade deadline.
It’s enough to replenish the entire farm system and catapult its ranking among the league’s best.
They now have Luisangel Acuna, Drew Gilbert, Ryan Clifford, Marco Vargas, Ronald Hernandez, Jeremiah Jackson, and Justin Jarvis: that’s the entire deadline haul, which is very solid.
Still, the organization’s higher-ups believe the team lacks something in the talent identification and development area.
As a result, they made an organizational overhaul.
“There has been a major shakeup in the Mets’ front office, per sources. The team has dismissed several longtime employees, including pro scouting director Jeff Lebow, farm director Kevin Howard, performance director Jim Cavallini and baseball development director Bryan Hayes,” Mets insider Anthony DiComo tweeted.
There have been recent rumblings that the Mets are going to try and convince David Stearns, who revamped the Milwaukee Brewers and made them contenders in the NL Central in the second half of the 2010s, to join as the head of baseball operations.

These dismissals would give Stearns or the person that ends up joining the power of decision to bring in their own people for these critical tasks and responsibilities.
In a reply to his own tweet, DiComo confirms that the Mets intend to hire a president of baseball operations.
The Mets intend to be a sustainable powerhouse over the years, and to achieve that, they need to have top-notch resources and people in player development.
The 2023 season is still underway, but the Mets are already thinking about 2024 and beyond.
