The New York Mets cannot find a way to string together some wins.
With June ending, the Mets cannot wait for this month to be over.
They have been one of the worst teams in baseball this month, including not winning a single series.
The Mets have a record of 35-43 on the season and find themselves in an insurmountable hole in the division.
According to Anthony DiComo, the Mets are 16 games out of first place, which matches their most at any point over the past five seasons.

The last time the Mets were at least 16 games out before the start of August (let alone July) was back in 2003. They went 66-95 that season.

Most people are surprised with how poorly the Mets have played this year.
They are coming off a season where they won 101 games yet lost in the Wild Card round.
It appears they have not recovered from the disappointing end to last season.
New York brought back mostly the same roster in 2023, and they even added reigning AL Cy Young winner Justin Verlander.
Yet, they continue to struggle both at the plate and in the field.
The Mets rank 19th in baseball in batting average, and 15th in runs scored.
Also, their 4.62 team ERA ranks 25th in baseball.
Many of their problems result from not playing in unison.
When they pitch well they cannot hit and when they hit well they cannot pitch.
If the Mets are serious about getting back into the playoff race this year they need to make some changes.
It will be interesting to see what they do when the trade deadline comes around.
That could play a deciding role in what direction this team is headed in.
