The postseason picture is starting to take shape.
As we enter the month of September, we now can see who the true postseason contenders are.
It’s safe to say that the New York Mets are one of those teams.
After signing Max Scherzer in the offseason and making plenty of other impactful moves, the Mets have busted out and become the cream of the crop in the NL East, above even the Atlanta Braves.
And they’ve taken it right to their fellow National League postseason contenders.
They just wrapped up their season series with the Los Angeles Dodgers, winning four out of seven and making a huge statement, but they also have played well against the Braves and won five out of seven against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The 2022 #Mets’ record against other NL teams that are bound for the postseason:
4-3 vs. #Dodgers
9-7 vs. #Braves
5-2 vs. #Cardinals
14-5 vs. #Phillies— Niko (@nscar10) September 1, 2022
Mets Dominating NL Postseason Contenders
This is what you want to see if you’re a Mets fan.
The ability to beat good teams is part of what separates the contenders and the pretenders.
Having won their season series against the Dodgers and Cardinals, two powerhouses in the National League, the Mets have become just that: a powerhouse.
With the defending champion Braves in their division, it certainly hasn’t been easy.
There’s also the Philadelphia Phillies to deal with.
But in addition to beating the Cards and Dodgers, they went 14-5 against the Phils.
This is the mark of a true World Series contender.
For all the people saying, “Mets Gonna Met”, predicting a late-season collapse, which is something that has happened before, the Mets have shown no signs of that, and instead keep dominating everybody in their path.
They’re at full strength and playing their best baseball at just the right time.
The NL East race is far from over, but this is a team that should not be overlooked as we move towards the postseason.
