New York Mets lefty David Peterson was so bad in April and May that the team had no choice but to send him to Triple-A after a May 15 start in which he surrendered nine hits and six runs.
From April 17 to May 15, he had a stretch of five starts in which he conceded no fewer than four runs per outing.
He was in need of a break to regroup and find a way to be successful.
Well, the organization recalled him from Triple-A Syracuse to start Tuesday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
He seemed like a completely different hurler.
“That’s as strong a start as the Mets could have asked from David Peterson in his return to the Majors: 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K, 110 pitches. Peterson was a ground-ball machine all night, vindicating the Mets’ decision to start him. And his night ends with this Lindor gem,” Mets insider Anthony DiComo tweeted, adding a clip of Lindor’s spectacular play to guarantee Peterson completed six scoreless frames.

He did have three walks in six innings, but limited Brewers bats to five hits and struck out five batters himself.
Peterson was as good as the Mets needed him to be, and invited fans to dream about the rotation finally finding some stability after a few rough weeks.
The Mets are 36-43 at the moment, and if they are going to slowly creep back up in the standings, they need outings like these from Peterson.
They would help the staff a lot, as most of the veteran components of the Mets rotation find their stride.
