The Dallas Mavericks have experienced a lot of good and bad during the current 2022-23 NBA season.
The good has obviously been the excellent work of Luka Doncic, who may be well on his way to his first MVP trophy.
As for the bad, that’s been the rest of the roster.
They have been inconsistent at times and not providing Doncic with the help he needs.
But Christian Wood has been one of the team’s few breakout stars.
Even though Christian Wood is currently injured, he’s still a name to watch at the deadline because the Mavs may not re-sign him next off-season per @TheSteinLine

However, he may not be around after this season.
NBA insider Marc Stein is reporting that Wood, who is currently injured with a left thumb fracture, is a name to watch at the upcoming trade deadline because the Mavs may not re-sign him in the offseason.
This would be a shocking and disappointing move for fans of the Mavericks because they really like what they have seen from Wood.
So far this season, he has averaged 18.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists.
Wood started the season as a bench player, giving the team more depth and a reliable leader for the second unit.
But he has been starting in a lot more games and has created a good rhythm and relationship with Doncic.
As mentioned, he is now sitting out with his injury and will be re-evaluated later this week.
If the Mavericks decide to part ways with Wood, it’ll be because they are looking to really shake things up and alter the team in major ways.
Wood would probably be able to get a mid-level player.
Or he could be part of a package deal to land an All-Star-caliber athlete.
The Mavericks are a team to keep a close eye on in the next few weeks.
They have one of the best players alive but are still struggling to claim supremacy in the West.
They are now looking to change that.
