The Seattle Mariners made the postseason last year for the first time since 2001.
Then, they won a playoff series against the Toronto Blue Jays and competed with the Houston Astros in the Division Series, even though they were swept.
That’s why when they opened the 2023 campaign with a mediocre 50-50 record, it was both shocking and disappointing.
However, MLB seasons last 162 games for a reason: you need to have a reasonable margin to separate really good teams from mediocre ones.
The Mariners were, and are, not mediocre, but they weren’t playing their best baseball and luck was definitely not on their side.
They kept competing, though, and they are finally resembling the team that shocked the world in September and October 2022.
“Mariners were 50-50 at one point. They are 71-55. Yes that’s a 21-5 stretch. BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL,” Seattle Mariners On Tap tweeted.

Thanks mainly by some inspired pitching performances by a formidable rotation and the incredible Julio Rodriguez, the M’s have won 21 of their last 26 games.
They are now just one game behind the Texas Rangers for the top spot in the AL West.
The division is the most exciting in baseball at the moment: there is just one game separating the Rangers, the Astros, and the Mariners.
There is a good chance one of the three squads won’t play postseason baseball this year, and there might be two depending on how the Wild Card picture shakes out.
What we know is that Seattle is currently the hottest team in baseball, and they are pushing towards a second consecutive playoff appearance.
