Good fortune continues to elude the Detroit Lions.
Their last winning season was in 2017, while their last playoff victory was in 1991.
They have been to the postseason eight times since, gaining zero victories.
Last season, the Lions finished at 3-13-1 under charismatic head coach Dan Campbell.
His memorable quotes didn’t mask the fact that the Lions are still looking for a breakthrough.
They had the opportunity to start the season strongly by defeating the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Lions blanked the Eagles in the final quarter of their Week 1 matchup, 14-0.
Unfortunately, just like in previous games, those points were insufficient to stop the Eagles from securing a 38-35 win.
Despite the loss, they got solid performances from D’Andre Swift, Jamaal Williams, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and DJ Chark.
Likewise, sportsbooks give them an edge in Week 2, which could end a surprising streak.
Just saw this on ESPN’s scroller: The Lions, currently a -2.5 favorite vs. Commanders, have been an underdog for 24 straight games, the longest streak since 1966

NBC Sports Washington’s Pete Hailey tweeted, “Just saw this on ESPN’s scroller: The Lions, currently a -2.5 favorite vs. Commanders, have been an underdog for 24 straight games, the longest streak since 1966.”
It’s hard to fault the Lions for being underdogs for a long time because they constantly end up with disappointing campaigns.
Either they lose big or fall short in the end.
However, it’s also surprising that the Lions are favorites because the Washington Commanders won their season opener versus the Jacksonville Jaguars.
A Different Vibe For The Lions
Sportsbooks noticed that the Lions fought hard in their loss.
If they can do that against a formidable opponent in the Eagles, they are hoping for the same, if not better, performance against the Commanders.
While “Hard Knocks” made them the talk of the offseason, a win over Washington could help steer them to the right direction.
