The Detroit Lions have substantially improved their roster this offseason.
They were able to do so because they had elite 2023 draft capital.
Detroit had five picks in the top 70 and was able to add multiple first-year starters.
But, to make room for all of their new players, the Lions decided to let a few players go.
According to the Lions’ official Twitter page, the team has released WR Stanley Berryhill, CB Mac McCain, and DL Demetrius Taylor.

Releasing players this early in the offseason means Detroit did not think they would make their roster.
Berryhill was one of the players that was suspended for violating the league’s gambling policy.
He was given a six-game suspension, so that was an easy move for the Lions.
However, McCain and Taylor were players that could have competed for a roster spot in training camp.
Since Detroit has made these moves, they will be looking for someone to step in and fill these spots.
Each year many undrafted free agents make teams’ 53-man rosters.
So the Lions must like their chances of finding an undrafted player over one of these three.
For the first time in a while, the Lions will be entering a season with playoff expectations.
They missed the postseason last year by one game and bring back a very good roster.
Playing in the NFC North should give them a substantial advantage.
The Packers lost Aaron Rodgers, and the Vikings are not expected to be as good.
This upcoming season will be the best chance the Lions have had to win their division in a long time.
