When LeBron James joined the Los Angeles Lakers a few seasons ago, many people expected a dominant new era for the team with multiple championships and a constant stream of records being broken.
The hopes for that only grew when Anthony Davis joined the team after James.
While the Lakers did win a championship three seasons ago, the rest of their record has been decidedly mixed.
And the way they have opened every season with James leaves much to be desired.

Did you know that the Lakers have not won an opening night during the James era?
It’s true, they have lost every single opening game since signing the NBA superstar.
This was a trend that continued the other night as the Lakers fell to the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday.
What’s next for James and his Lakers?
Opening Night Outcomes
Losing an opening night game isn’t the end of the world, plenty of great teams start off their seasons with a loss.
But the trouble with the Lakers is that they aren’t only losing on opening night, they are losing plenty of other games too.
The Lakers have so many problems and that became most apparent last year when the team, even with James and Davis, wasn’t able to make the play-in tournament.
They are hoping to reverse course and not face the same outcome this year but it seems that some of the problems they had last season still exist.
The team’s shooting on opening night was truly painful and the team still didn’t act cohesive, confident, and strong.
James has been playing terrific basketball since coming to the Lakers and has actually gotten better in some respects.
Still, that’s not enough to stop their opening night trend.
