So, there’s a chance that Zach Wilson won’t be the starting quarterback for the New York Jets.
That’s a disturbing reality, given that he is the upstart quarterback and the team used their second overall pick in 2021 to acquire him.
But as they continue to prepare for the 2022 season, head coach Robert Saleh is saying things like this.
"Joe Flacco is a starting quarterback in this league."

When the reporter asked Saleh if they are surprised to have Joe Flacco as one of their quarterbacks, he said, “He should be, in my opinion, he could start in this league. I believe that. Sometimes, this league has a tendency to pigeonhole people and put labels on people and then their opportunities kinda get limited. But Joe Flacco is a starting quarterback in this league.”
Remember, Flacco has won a Super Bowl as a starting quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens.
But while that has been a long time ago, he has proven his worth in the league.
Going back to that statement, is Saleh trying to fire up Wilson and raise his game?
Are they not satisfied with Wilson’s performance which paves the way for Flacco to take over?
That response brings out more questions than answers.
Fierce Competition At Training Camp
To say the least, Wilson must convince the Jets coaching staff that he is the best choice.
He should be at training camp but without thinking that he has the starting role on lock.
As always, the job goes to the best person for the role.
Therefore, Saleh is indicating that Flacco has a shot at starting if he shows that he is more worthy than Wilson.
In that case, Wilson should think that he is the guy that can lead the Jets to victory.
