In exchange, Atlanta will receive Cleveland’s sixth-rounder in the draft of the same year.
Jones was a 2017 Pro Bowler after finishing with 91 solo tackles, ten pass deflections, three interceptions, and a sack.
He was a rookie during the Falcons’ run to Super Bowl LI, finishing with 75 tackles, 11 pass deflections, and three picks.
The former LSU standout also had 15 tackles, ten pass deflections, and an interception in three playoff games that year.
He was also included on the Pro Football Writers Association’s All-Rookie Team.
Jones missed only one game over the last three seasons and had a career-high 4.5 sacks in 2020.
He has regular season numbers of 650 total tackles, 11 interceptions, 8.5 sacks, and five defensive touchdowns throughout his stint in Atlanta.
However, the Falcons placed him on injured reserve to start their 2022 campaign.
The team still has five inside linebackers after Jones’ departure: Troy Andersen, Rashaan Evans, Nick Kwiatkoski, Nathan Landman, and Mykal Walker.
The Falcons and the Browns have identical 2-3 records through Week 5.
The Browns Need Experience At Linebacker
Atlanta and Cleveland play different base defenses, with the Falcons lining up in a 3-4 while the Browns use a 4-3 scheme.
Still, Jones will play middle linebacker with the Browns, making him the fourth player in that position.
Cleveland also has Jacob Phillips, Jordan Kunaszyk, and Anthony Walker Jr. on the depth chart.
However, Walker is also on injured reserve after suffering from a torn quad in Week 3.
Meanwhile, Phillips is in his third NFL season, tallying 18 tackles and two sacks through five weeks.
Kunaszyk is in his fourth season and has one tackle in 2022.
The Browns hope to have Jones back as early as Week 6, in time for their game against the New England Patriots.
