It’s been a quiet offseason for the Miami Dolphins for the most part, as they didn’t have a ton of draft assets or prominent areas of need in their roster.
Still, they made a somewhat impactful move ahead of the start of the season, signing veteran tight end Tyler Kroft to a one-year contract, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Kroft will strengthen an unimpressive yet deep tight end room for the Dolphins.
They already have sixth-round pick Elijah Higgins, Tanner Conner, Durham Smythe, and Eric Saubert, who was also brought in as a free agent.
Notably, Higgins was actually a wide receiver in college, and he’s expected to be converted to a tight end in the pros, so the transition might take a while.
Kroft entered the league in 2015 as a third-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals, and he spent the first four years of his career with the organization.
He later joined the Buffalo Bills as a free agent for the next couple of seasons, then played for the New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers on one-year stints.
Throughout his career, the veteran TE has logged 105 receptions for 1,081 yards and 13 scores.
However, he didn’t enjoy much playing time with the Niners, making just 11 appearances (four starts) and hauling in four receptions for 57 yards.
While he may not have expanded opportunities in Mike McDaniel’s explosive and high-volume offense, he’ll provide some much-needed veteran expertise while the team takes time to develop Higgins, easing his transition to a new position.
