With the Arizona Diamondbacks well out of postseason contention, they have chosen to focus on their future.
Late on Sunday, the team announced that they would be calling up their top prospect in Corbin Carroll.
Carroll is the No. 3 ranked prospect in all of baseball and was the Diamondbacks’ first-round pick back in 2019.
Carroll hasn’t had too much time in the minors.
The 2020 minor league season was called off due to COVID and he was limited to just nine games in 2021 after shoulder surgery.
After a hot start in Double-A, he was promoted to Triple-A Reno, where he slashed .287/.408/.535.

D’Backs Promote Top Prospect
This is clearly a move to help strengthen the Diamondbacks’ future.
The 2022 season is a wash at this point, but Carroll could still give them something of a different look on paper.
No, he won’t help them get back into contention, but he could still strengthen their team and give them a chance to play a little spoiler down the stretch.
Carroll is an exciting young prospect who has been tearing it up down in the minors.
The fact that he began the season at Double-A makes his rise to the big-leagues even more impressive, especially when you consider the fact that he’s had limited playing time due to injuries and COVID wiping out the entire minor league season.
But here he is now in the Major Leagues, ready to make an impact and show the Diamondbacks what he’s made of.
We’ll see what he can do down the stretch.
He joins an elite group of young outfielders who are already with the big-league club.
Alek Thomas, Jake McCarthy, and Daulton Varsho are already with the team.
Now, they’ll get another solid young outfielder.
