At 72-68, the Arizona Diamondbacks are fighting for a postseason spot.
They are actually just half a game behind the third and last Wild Card spot, occupied by the Miami Marlins.
They have had a hard time keeping the same pace with which they started off the season, but they have done an admirable job as a young, up-and-coming squad vying for a place in October.
The race is tight, and there are four teams separated by 2.5 games with less than a month to play.
Every play is important, and everything a team can do to improve its chances is welcomed.
The D-Backs have decided to bring up one of their best position player prospects in infielder Jordan Lawlar.
“Welcome to the Big Leagues, Jordan Lawlar! The @Dbacks top prospect and #6 pick in the 2021 Draft is set to make his debut tonight at Wrigley Field!” MLB Network tweeted, with a video of Lawlar’s talent and best moments since being picked in the draft.

With the promise and expectation that a No. 6 pick carries, Lawlar is aware of the fact he is entering a playoff race.
His talent warrants a promotion, though.
Opening the season in Double-A, he had a .263/.366/.471 line with 15 homers and a .837 OPS in 89 games.
He was then promoted to Triple-A Reno, where he was even better: .358/.438/.612 with five round-trippers and a 1.049 OPS.
The shortstop also carries significant stolen base potential: he swiped 33 bags in Double-A and three more in Triple-A to give him 36 on the season.
He is a talented five-tool player who could represent the difference between a playoff spot and another offseason at home for the D-Backs.
